The Oxford Faculty of Philosophy is one of the oldest and most esteemed in the world. With origins in the 13th century, its alumni include William of Ockham (to whom we owe the phrase “Occam’s razor”), Thomas Hobbes, Jeremy Bentham, John Locke, Gilbert Ryle, Derek Parfit, Bernard Williams, Richard Swinburne, Robert Nozick, John Rawls, Peter Singer and many others.
